We are 34 weeks and almost 6 weeks old!

Mommy Time!
Here is a picture of sweet Kennedy without her ventilator and as you can see she is still no bigger than her bunny we got her for easter! Doesn't she look great! She weighs 1lb 14 ounces now. She looks even better now than in this picture because she, like Karsyn, no longer has any IV's in...just the oxygen and heart monitors!
This picture was just taken last night when Kurt was holding Karsyn. She was so awake and looked so good I just wanted to take her home. She is really starting to look like a big girl now, she weighs 2 lbs 13 ounces, wow almost 3 lbs.

We can't wait until we can get little Kennedy in our arms to take a picture with both girls together. Then the best day will be when we can get big sister Logan and our whole family together again. We can't believe it has already almost been 6 weeks since Karsyn and Kennedy were born into our family but we also know that we still have a ways to go. The doctors still have to be reminded that they are now 34 weeks because they don't look like 34 week babies. Over the next few weeks before we will get to bring them home they will have to master the feedings with the bottle and gain weight. Right now neither girls have really had bottles. We tried Karsyn a few nights ago and she did really well with the sucking but she sorda forgot to breathe, minor detail right! We will probably try again with both of them in a few days or a week. Anyway they look great and are showing such progress. As for Logan, I think she is loving having mom home with her all the time because she is stuck to her hip right now. I don't mind because I want to spend as much time with her as I can until the babies come home and require some extra attention.

Kennedy is a big girl now

Hey everyone, just a quick note to let everyone know that Kennedy is officially off her ventilator, well at least for now. They took her off on their one month birthday, yea! They said that when they are as small as she is sometimes they get tired of breathing on their own and have to be put back on but as of 10:00 am yesterday until now she is doing great! They also think that because she is continuing to eat so good that we may be able to hold her soon too! Right now Kurt and I have to take turns every other day to hold Karsyn and would love to be able to hold Kennedy also, hopefully soon! Love you all!

Big girls!!

Well I wouldn't say they are fat by any stretch but Karsyn and Kennedy are trying so hard to grow. Karsyn is still just increasing her feedings, she is now up to 19cc's every three hours and also have 4 extra calories added with a powder mix to beef her up...yes 4 calories. Kennedy is still increasing on her milk also and is now at 6 cc's every three hours. The doctors are hoping to get her off her ventilator maybe tomorrow...cross your fingers. Kennedy has given the doctors a run for their money, she has had ultrasounds on her heart several times and they have seen two things on the right side of the heart that they can't figure out what they are. They have thought they could possibly be clots or masses or tumors but even the "best doctors in the nation" at Primary Children's can't decide what they are and have never seen anything like it before. They have decided that because she is so little and still unstable that they are not going do anything about them right now and are hoping that they will just go away, which is what we are hoping also. She is going to be a handful I think!!! Anyway life is good and I am enjoying the extra time that I get to spend with Logan at home, even though everything is a little crazy right now. Logan is talking so good and says the funniest stuff, we laugh at her all day. She loves to color and draw and is pretty good at it too, maybe she will be an artist like her daddy!!! She is loving having her cousin Makinlee home here in Utah and adores her aunt and uncle Clay and Hailey who she hasn't had close by since she was very little. Thanks to all who are helping us out, especially family, we wouldn't be able to get through this without you.

Karsyn, Kennedy and Logan

Well not a whole lot has changed in the last few days, which is actually a good thing in their case. Karsyn is still doing really well on just oxygen and they are trying now to get her feedings increased. She is now up to about 10cc's every 3 hours and they will increase it by 1cc every 6 hours if she is still digesting it all every time. Just to give you an idea, there are about 30cc's in an ounce so she is only feeding about 1/3 of an ounce every three hours, not much but she is moving up fast and we are glad she is tolerating that even. As for Kennedy she is still doing steroids to boost up her lungs so she can come down on her vent settings. They did move her over to the traditional vent instead of the oscillator, which is pretty much a lateral move but may be easier to wean her down soon. She is still not feeding at all but they may start in the next few days at 1cc!!! Anyway, no news is good news for us at this point and we are just still taking it day by day but seem to be making progress! I also hope to get so updated pictures of the girls because our computer is being dumb right now and won't download them and we have some better pictures now that they are a little easier on the eyes, ya know!! As for that other gal of ours, Logan, she is hanging in there also. She has required a little extra attention lately, expectedly, because of all the running around. She was pretty much potty trained and now is deciding that she wants to have accidents once in a while. She is being so good though through all of this and we love her to death! Love you all!

Life Changes

Well I guess life has turned us in the direction of using a blog with all the changes we are experiencing. On March 18th Kurt, Logan, and I added two more gals to our family. I had been in the hospital for a few weeks before the doctors decided it was too risky to leave the babies inside any longer. The girls were born at 28 weeks and 3 days. Karsyn Leigh weighed 2 lbs 1 oz and Kennedy Ann weighed 1 lb 3 oz and were both about 11 inches long. Over the last few weeks, since they are 3 weeks old tomorrow, we have had many ups and downs. Right now Karsyn is eating about 8cc's every 3 hours and is now off of her ventilator and just has a nasal cannula giving her oxygen. Kennedy is a little behind Karsyn but fighting hard. She has just finished treatment for her PDA, a duct in her heart that needs to be closed, and since it now looks closed hopefully she will be able to make some progress soon. It seems to be pretty unanimous that these girls and both testy and touchy. We hope this fire will help them to continue to fight for their lives!!! We look forward to seeing them everyday and hope that we will be able to bring them home with us soon to be with us and their big sister Logan.
